Mendeley - Vietnam Guide

Mendeley is a free academic reference manager tool. This start guide will provide you with information on how to create your account, build up your Mendeley Library, and use the MS Word plugin to insert citations and references.

Insert Citations and References

1. To insert in-text citation(s) in Word:

  • Place the cursor where you want to insert your in-text citations.
  • Go to the 'References' tab in Word, select 'Mendeley Cite'. The Mendeley Cite add-in window will appear on the right-hand side of Word.
  • Select the reference(s) you want to insert to your Word document, or search for a keyword in the search box. Choose 'Insert Citation'.

Please note: You can also insert multiple citations into your Word document by selecting the square box(es) in front of reference(s).

2. To insert the Reference list:

  • After adding the in-text citation(s), you can add the Reference list to your document.
  • Place your cursor to where you want to insert the Reference list (usually placed at the end of your document), select the 'three dots' icon on Mendeley Cite add-in, choose 'Insert Bibliography'.

  • Mendeley will automatically update the Reference List as you insert more in-text citations to your Word document.
