Mendeley - Vietnam Guide

Mendeley is a free academic reference manager tool. This start guide will provide you with information on how to create your account, build up your Mendeley Library, and use the MS Word plugin to insert citations and references.

Mendeley Cite is missing

If you can't find the Mendeley Cite add-in in your MS Word, you could try:

In Mendeley Reference Manager, check the 'Tools' menu whether or not you have installed Mendeley Cite. If not, you can install it and check again.

If you have already tried the option above, and still can't install the add-in, contact your Liaison Librarian for support.

Mac Users - Privacy Settings

For Mac users, if you install Mendeley Desktop and get this message "Mendeley Desktop can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software", try the following solutions.

By default, the security and privacy preferences of your Mac are set to allow apps from the App Store and identified developers. The error message is because Mendeley is not identified from the App Store. To fix the issue:

In System Preferences (Apple symbol from the left corner), choose Security & Privacy, then select General.

Select the lock and enter your password to make changes.

Select App Store and identified developer under the header 'Allow apps downloaded from' or check if it has an option that says Open anyway.

Alternatively, you can also download the released version of Mendeley that is suitable for your MacOS. See the list of Mendeley for various MacOS here: https://www.mendeley.com/download-mendeley-desktop-legacy/macOS.
