Videos in Canvas

Instructions on linking and embedding Library videos, including playlists and clips, in your Canvas course and Reading List.

About GDC Vault

Note: GDC Vault does not allow you to create playlists or clips, and you cannot embed content in your Canvas course. However, you can link to either individual videos from your Canvas module or add them to your Reading List.

Access information

To ensure you have full access to GDC Vault, select Login at the top right of screen, and use the supplied login details provided (make sure to access via the Library).

Once logged in, videos can be saved by selecting the +Add to Bookshelf button that appears in the full video record (there is a limit of 50 items).

Items in the Bookshelf can be viewed by selecting Account at the top right of screen. (Note: the Bookshelf is shared among all users on the RMIT account, as there are no personal accounts available in GDC Vault).

Note: Only 25 users can log in simultaneously to GDC Vault using the RMIT account. If you cannot access the database, please try again later.

Reading Lists

See more information about Reading Lists on the library guide Reading Lists in Canvas.

To add a video in Reading Lists

Videos in GDC Vault are not currently indexed in LibrarySearch. The best way to add videos from GDC Vault is to use Cite it, as detailed on the Reading Lists in Canvas guide.

  1. The Cite it function will autofill some parts of the citation details. Check the fields for Title, Author, Type, Duration, Publisher, Publication date, and if needed, a public note.
  2. Once complete, add to the appropriate section of the Reading List.
  3. Select ADD.

If Cite it is not available, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the selected video in GDC Vault, making sure it is taken from the page once logged in. Copy the full URL of the video page.
  2. In Reading Lists, select ADD ITEMS, or select the ellipsis for your preferred section and select Add Items from the menu.
  3. In the right sidebar, select Create.
  4. For Type, select Video, then add title, author and date information.
  5. In Source, paste the full URL of the video.
  6. Select the section of the list desired.
  7. Then select Add at the bottom of the sidebar.
