Referencing for Vietnam Campus: RMIT Harvard Style

Introduction

Sometimes, you may have to cite information from interviews in your papers or assignments.

  • Face-to-face interviews: conducted by yourself
  • Published interviews : found in journals, magazines, newspapers, websites or other resources

Face-to-face interviews

  • Face-to-face interviews that you conduct by yourself are considered personal communications which should be cited in the text but do not need to be included in the reference list.
  • E.g.  When interviewed on 6 August 2022, Anna Mitchell from VEGA Ltd said that.....

Published interviews

  • Published interviews follow the same rules as the source that the published interview appears in. For example, if the interview appears in a television program or podcast, you reference the television program or podcast.
  • The person cited in the in-text reference is treated as the author since they have primary responsibility for communicating the content you are referring to.
  • It is possible to mention the interviewee in your writing (see the example below)

Example of a published interview which appears in an online newspaper

In an interview with Paterson Joseph, it is showed that there are 64 homeless people joined the one-man show in Manchester, London and Nottingham (Armitstead 2024).
