Library micro-credentials

A guide to the content of the Library's micro-credentials and how teachers and lecturers can embed these creds in courses and programs.

About this cred

Planning a Digital Communication Strategy is one of 10 Digital Literacy Creds that are designed as a tool to support lifelong learning; to prepare students for living, learning and working in a digital society.

Graduates should avoid compromising opportunities with a lacklustre digital presence. It is common practice for employers to check candidates' social media profiles before hiring. Their online presence, which includes their social media profiles, are the first place a prospective employer checks to find out more about them, so it will pay them to be three steps ahead.

Who should do this cred?

While this cred will benefit anyone who undertakes it, the content is most suited to:

  • undergraduate students starting to plan and move into their career after graduation
  • Vocational education students
  • postgraduate students
  • students wanting to build their online profile in their industry or ensure their existing social media presence is professional and will appeal to employers

Student benefits

The skills the course facilitates are directly transferable to promoting a small business opportunity, a personal project, or to plan an employer’s online communication strategy. Importantly, these capabilities contribute to greater career prospects for students, as those who understand how to craft an online profile can provide potential employers with a meaningful and relevant account of themselves.

Embedding this cred

This Cred educates students on effectively using digital media for professional and personal purposes.  It is designed to develop students' skills in creating a strategy, profile and message to enhance employment prospects, build networks, and promote a business or product.  Embedding this Cred provides students with information on social media management, targeting audiences, developing personas and maximising and measuring the impact of their message. This Cred is related to communication, marketing, web design and digital media, but has multi-disciplinary application and benefits.
