The AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) is internationally recognised for its standard methods of testing fibres and fabrics to measure and evaluate performance characteristics like colourfastness, appearance, soil release, dimensional change, and water resistance. These standards are published annually in the AATCC Technical Manual.

How to search

1. Type the standard number or keyword(s) in the search box, e.g. carbon steel. Press the green search button.
2. Within your search results, leave My Subscriptions unchecked so your search results will include standards we both subscribe to and those we do not. You can also choose to filter your search results by Publisher to see standards from the publisher(s) you are interested in, e.g. ASTM, ISO.
3. If we subscribe to the full-text of a standard, you will not see any shopping cart icon below the title. Simply click on the title to access the standard.
4. If we do not subscribe to the full-text of a standard, you will see the shopping cart icon below the title. To request a purchase, click on the cart > click on Request access > fill in the form > press Submit. If approved, you will be able to access the full-text by clicking on the standard's title. (Note: if the shopping cart icon has a magnifying glass, you will be able to preview an excerpt of the full-text. This can help you decide if that is the standard you need before you request a purchase. To preview, click on the title.)

The British Standards Institution publishes a number of textile and clothing standards.  Below are some that RMIT University Library has.  You might find others in LibrarySearch - search for "British Standards Institution" and browse to find clothing and textiles standards.

ISO (The International Organization for Standardization) publishes many textiles standards. The Library has some of these in hard copy.

Search tips:

1. In LibrarySearch search for "International Organization for Standardization" using inverted commas "..." as shown.
    (Note the US spelling of Organization with the letter z.)

2. Limit your results to Books and Multimedia using the drop-down menu beside the search box.

3. Add additional keywords to your search e.g. textile, fabric, clothing, sizing.

4. Use the Subject options on the left side to refine your results.
