Research skills
From the University of Adelaide the Research Skills Development Framework builds on principles of information literacy and describes the process whereby:
A. Students embark on inquiry and so determine a need for knowledge/understanding.
B. Students find/generate needed information/data using appropriate methodology.
C. Students critically evaluate information/data and the process to find/generate this information/data.
D. Students organise information collected/generated.
E. Students synthesise and analyse and apply new knowledge.
F. Students communicate knowledge and the processes used to generate it, with an awareness of ethcal, social and cultural issues.
Welcome
This guide has been produced for students studying in RMIT University's School of Education and is intended to assist in research skills development.
It covers important scholarly skills involved in analysing an information need, formulating a search, identifying different types of source material, choosing from tools and resources for searching, locating harcopy and online material, evaluating information and managing citations.
